Writing Intent

At Manor Infant and Nursery we are writers!

We believe that equipping children with the ability to read, write and express themselves clearly with a rich vocabulary is essential for lifelong learning. We intend to ensure all of our children develop a genuine love of language and the written word, through a text-based approach, ensuring that the texts children learn from are ambitious and stimulating, whilst combining this with first hand experiences for the children to draw upon in their writing.

We teach children that making and acting upon mistakes is a valuable part of learning and how to be resilient and resourceful learners, using everything around them to make progress.

We ensure that children develop an understanding of how widely writing is used in everyday life and, therefore, how important and useful the skills are that they are learning.

We also teach English skills - reading, writing and oracy- throughout the broader curriculum, allowing children to apply their knowledge in different, creative contexts and relate it to their own life and aspirations.
